Mick Schumacher has a difficult time in Formula 1. No other driver has such a wide range of opinions. Either he only drives in the premier class because of his significant surname or from the other quarter it is said that he is underrated and his mistakes are criticized far too much.
At the beginning of the season, the debate culminated in public discussions about harsh criticism from his team manager Günther Steiner. “The camp is split. The division of the team from the outside is not good for Mick. There is a lot of unrest from the outside,” Steiner said at the Sky microphone at the time.
The 23-year-old still has no contract for the coming year. Reason enough to draw a Schumacher conclusion after 1.5 years of Formula 1. Where is the 2020 Formula 2 champion actually classified? Is the criticism of his person justified or too harsh?

Schumacher’s first season is not easy to evaluate. On the one hand, he had his teammate Nikita Mazepin clearly under control. He won the qualifying duel 17:2 with a lead of more than eight tenths, in the race he regularly lapped Mazepin.
However, it almost never performed well compared to the competition because the VF-21 was by far the slowest car. Often the other teams were far in front of him, while his teammate far behind wasn’t really a benchmark. Due to Mazepin’s poor performance, its fundamental Formula 1 quality was questioned.
Apart from that, despite having the weakest car in the field, the German managed to set a small exclamation point from time to time. For example, the Q2 entry in France or a 17th place ahead of Nicholas Latifi in Portimao.
However, the Russian was better in one discipline: Schumacher caused many accidents in 2021, more precisely, even the most. In the 2021 MSM driver ranking, he finished 12th out of 21 with an average score of 3.03.

Team boss Günther Steiner publicly criticized him on Sky after his crash in Monaco: “With Mick we obviously saw what happened.
It’s not particularly acceptable to have another big accident (…) We have to see how we do it continue from here” The public criticism had an effect. In the following races, Schumacher’s performance curve clearly went up. He scored his first points at Silverstone and backed up that good performance with an even better weekend at Spielberg, finishing fifth in the race.

“Of course it was tough at the beginning of the season. We were still stuck in our minds from last year and tried to adapt a lot of that for this year. (…) we started to change. We changed the driving style, the whole thing approach,” explained Schumacher. This trend can also be recorded in numbers. Although he only reduced the qualifying gap marginally by five thousandths, he came much closer to Magnussen in the race.
On average, he is only one position behind him in the race, and at the same time he corrected his driving mistakes after the Monaco weekend.
Schumacher has made an obvious step forward this season, but is that enough? He still has his problems in qualifying. A distance of four tenths and a clear result of 10:2 per Magnussen speak for themselves. It was already evident in the junior series that qualifying is not one of his strengths, and he has to work on that. In the MSM driver ranking for the 2022 season, he is currently in 16th place with an average score of 3.30.
Schumacher’s rookie season was good, but the error rate was still too high. In the second season, things initially went badly and he underperformed. But after a lot of public criticism, he turned the trend around, corrected his driving mistakes and was in the running for music. However, his Achilles’ heel is qualifying. With the current trend his F1 performances are decent so far, not showing the best performances in the field but far from the worst either. Schumacher showed in the last few weeks before the summer break that he still has potential. Now he has nine races to confirm that trend.

Ahead of the 188-lap-long event, Kevin Harvick, a loving family man, was seen sharing a moment with his children as he sat inside his racecar. In a tweet by Harvick’s wife DeLana Harvick, the Bakersfield, California native’s daughter Piper Harvick was seen sharing a moment with her dad.

Kevin Harvick ultimately managed to finish qualifying in P11, with the race scheduled to go live on Sunday at 3:00 pm ET on FOX Sports.

Dale Jr emphasized the point of intent by saying, “You can’t see intent” from SMT.

Dale agreed with Ryan’s perspective and emphasized that intent cannot be accurately determined through SMT alone. He also praised Chase for handling the situation adeptly during interviews, “Chase did a good job not giving away too much in his interviews so forth which everybody’s learned that’s kind a route to be take not to have immersion to guilt.”
It appeared that Chase intentionally made contact with Denny Hamlin, but Chase defended himself in post-race interviews by stating that it was a situation where nobody had full control over their cars. However, Denny Hamlin strongly disagreed with the reasoning provided by the 2021 champion.
Hamlin took to Twitter and shared car-tracking data in a tweet, which seemed to indicate that Elliott abruptly turned left just before the collision occurred between the two drivers.
