When Curry joined the latest episode of the Dubs Talk podcast, I asked him point-blank to paint a clear picture of how he participates in his head coach’s strategizing.

Here is the transcript from that segment, edited lightly for clarity:

Grant Liffmann: There are some fans, there are some media, that can be pretty critical of the way the Steve Kerr offense runs and how it handles you, like on-ball, off-ball, high ball screens, pick-and-rolls, how your minutes are distributed, all these things are in hot debate at some point every single year. To be clear, how much are you involved and how would you characterize your involvement in the strategy and decisions that are made in this realm?

Steph Curry: It surprises me, I guess every year, that there is not an inherent understanding that I don’t just show up into the locker room.

Head up going to the bench, go through all these practices, and me and Coach [Kerr] don’t have these type of conversations in terms of my rotations, or play calls, or whatever the case may be.

Yes, I might not get the answer that I want in terms of … you know, I’d love to play 42 minutes a night. I feel like I can do it.

And certain games where you can push it a little bit, and you all can see my face or my reaction, body language, whatever, and then the questions come after the game.

‘Did you want to come out in the middle of the fourth quarter?’ And it’s like, of course, I didn’t, but [Kerr’s] making decisions for the good of the big picture, that is what his job is to manage.

So for like all that stuff, of course we have conversations about our rotation.

Right now my rotation is exactly how it should be, in terms of managing the season, giving our rotations the best chance to not have any lulls throughout the game.

Implement Klay [Thompson] back into the lineup when he is on a minutes restriction, and also fully understanding that it could change come post-All-Star, playoff run.

That is an ongoing assessment of how we are looking and how I’m feeling and all of that.

The on-ball, off-ball stuff is less of an issue because at any point, and Coach probably knows this. At any point, I could say, ‘I’m just going to run high pick-and-rolls for ten straight possessions.’

But also, you have to understand, what is the best chance for us to win the game?

Depending on how the teams are guarding, depending on what their strategy is, whether or not they want to blitz the pick-and-roll, who else is out there on the floor, do I have it rolling, or do I not.

Sometimes, granted, I will say that sometimes you can over-complicate things a little bit in terms of — and me and Coach have talked about this — he will be the first one to tell you that sometimes he wants to use me as a decoy, and executing that offense especially in late-game situations sometimes becomes a little more difficult.

And we go through those reps throughout the season so that when we get to the playoffs, we have a refined understanding of how we are going to win games, in all different types of scenarios and situations.

But my skill set obviously, in how I approach the game, I have the ability to do both [on-ball and off-ball]. And we are going to continue to try to do both, as long as it continues to work.

And throughout the course of 82 games, you are going to get a little bit of everything.

I will say that I appreciate the passion of all our fans to know the ebbs and flows of the season.

And everyone wants to play coach, that is how it is supposed to be. But as long as we are winning, we will be able to figure it out.

GL: It would be bad if people didn’t care, so that is how you have to look at it, as glass half full.

SC: That is how I wanted to finish that, because that passion, keep it coming. You are right, if there is ever a situation if nobody is asking that question, then I probably would get concerned like, ‘Are we not relevant anymore?’

2022 NBA Preseason Injury Update For Grizzlies Star As The List Of Players That Won’t Be Available Tonight Revealed

Given the nature of Morant’s injury, surgery was not required. Multiple weeks of rest were suggested and it has been nearly 4 months since he’s played NBA basketball. When looking at the injury reports for the Grizzlies, Ja Morant does not show up on CBS Sport’s list.

Jaren Jackson Jr, Danny Green, and Killian Tille are the 3 Grizzlies who are expected to be out for the preseason. When it comes to the Murray State, you can expect him to play against the Bucks. He’s even given his opinion on this 2022 NBA Preseason, saying:

“We take preseason as out training camp. Even though we got games coming up, there’s still time for us to install some things, time to get better in certain areas, and continue to grow in areas that we’re good at.”

Looks like the former Rookie of the Year is more than amped up to take to the floor following an unceremonious exit from last season’s Playoffs.

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies were quite the surprise team during the 2021-22 NBA season. Finishing with the second best record in a loaded Western Conference and snagging 56 wins, they would not only make the Playoffs but have home court advantage in it.

Lakers held an open scrimmage on Saturday and the only player to sit out was Anthony Davis as teammate LeBron James showed off his athleticism with some massive dunks.

Davis, 29, practiced ahead of the team’s preseason opener Monday against the Sacramento Kings but missed the open scrimmage.

He told the media afterwards that he did participate in the closed door scrimmage and played alongside Russell Westbrook and King James on the purple team.

Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said it’s possible that James, Davis and Westbrook will get some minutes in the preseason opener.

While Westbrook will likely still run the floor, Coach Ham has a plethora of options to start at the point guard position.

Kencrick Nunn looks like he will become the team’s starting point guard ahead of Dennis Schroeder.

Despite Nunn missing all of last season due to injury, Schroeder has yet to arrive in Los Angeles due to some issues with his visa.

Steph Curry proves he’s still the ‘petty king’ once again as he shades ESPN model

Earlier this week, ESPN came out with a model that predicts the Warriors will struggle to an eighth seed in the Western Conference and have to compete in the play-in tournament.

Never afraid to show his petty side, Curry commented on an Instagram post about the projection.

“14% chance to win the finals last year too,” he commented, in reference to an earlier ESPN prediction, which had given the Boston Celtics an 86% chance of winning the 2021-22 NBA Finals. The Warriors, of course, defeated the Celtics in six games.

In ESPN’s defense, lead analyst Kevin Pelton was quick to disavow the projection as soon as it was made public.

“I expect Golden State to outperform this projection and be back near the top of the West,” Pelton wrote about his own projection.

After winning it all last season, Curry gleefully called out everyone from the Boston bar that gave out “Ayesha Curry can’t cook” shirts to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who slighted the Warriors for their payroll, to noted Draymond Green nemesis Kendrick Perkins.

“We hear all of that. You carry it all and try to maintain your purpose, not let it distract you, but you carry that weight,” Curry said about his revenge spree. “And then you get here, and it all comes out.”

If Curry takes inspiration from being doubted, then the ESPN model, which thinks the Warriors will essentially be a .500 team, is just the thing to get the reigning NBA Finals MVP ready for the upcoming season.

The Warriors’ title defense begins later this month when they host the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center on Oct. 18.
