Klay Thompson not at Steph Curry’s historic night only thing missing

NBA legends and celebrities descended on Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday to witness Warriors star Steph Curry become the NBA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers.

Ray Allen and Reggie Miller were there. Steph’s parents, Dell and Sonya, made the trip. Director Spike Lee and actor Pete Davidson were among the Hollywood headliners in the house.

But there was one notable person missing from the festivities: Klay Thompson.

Curry’s Splash Brother didn’t travel with the Warriors on the current five-game road trip as he continues his rehab and nears the finish line to his return to the court. The team assigned Thompson and injured center James Wiseman to the G League Santa Cruz Warriors on Saturday so that they could get in practice reps.

It’s unknown if Thompson would have been allowed to leave his rehab assignment to travel to New York for the game or not.

For Draymond Green, as memorable of a night as it was for Curry, the franchise and the NBA, it didn’t feel complete without Thompson in the building.

“Anytime you have the chance to play in the Garden, it’s special,” Green told reporters after the Warriors’ 105-96 win over the New York Knicks. “You have the opportunity to break an all-time record here, that takes things to new heights and to a totally different level. Definitely would have rather had it over sooner, just to get it behind you, but in saying that, I don’t think there’s any better place in the world where it could have happened than Madison Square Garden. So it’s very special.

“I think the only thing missing for me was Klay not being here, just with the road traveled to get here, Klay was a huge part of that. So if anything could have been different, it was that. But other than that, very, very special night for a special person, for a special person. Very special. Great to be a part of.”

During his postgame press conference, Curry was asked if he has heard from his backcourt mate yet.

“I haven’t checked my phone,” Curry said. “It’s actually buzzing in my pocket right now, so I’ve got a lot of people to catch up to, but his jersey was in the locker room next to mine and it will be good to get back and celebrate with him, and then obviously celebrate his return hopefully soon. But it represents both the Splash Brothers in how we approach the game for sure.”

Surely one of the messages on Curry’s phone was from Thompson, and in due time, they will get a chance to celebrate both Steph’s record and Klay’s highly-anticipated return after two years away from the game.

LeBron James sends a strong message to the entire NBA

Last season the Lakers signed a resounding failure, after failing to qualify for the Playoffs , so this season they seek to have a rematch and be able to lift their 18th title in history. Likewise, LeBron James promised the fans of the Los Angeles franchise that he will give a show, because he assures that the team is up for great things.

Through a video, the Lakers shared a message from LeBron James to all the Los Angeles fans and ended with a warning to all NBA teams .

“I just want to say hello to all the Lakers faithful. Listen, without the Laker Show, we’re nothing. And it is my responsibility and our responsibility here, to put on a show for all of you. The sand is going to be lightning there. It’s going to be showtime everywhere. It’s going to be high-flying, alley-oops, 3-pointers, blocks, charges. A lot of emotion. You all give me that thrill, and I promise you I’ll give you my thrill. (Number) Six is back. The King is back, have my throne ready. Crown running. You know how we do it,” LeBron James said.

What the Lakers need according to LeBron

With the goal of having a good 2022-23 NBA season , the Los Angeles Lakers were forced to take stock to improve various aspects, both from the point of view of the squad and from the game.

And now it was LeBron James who admitted what they need to polish. “Defense… Obviously, you have to be able to get the ball in the rim, but teams that can defend and get stops where they’re needed are just more successful in our league. The defensive end of the court is what we’re going to work on every day,” he explained in dialogue with Dan Woike and Michael Corvo .

It is expected that this time, the defense of the Los Angeles franchise will work better, after a season in which Anthony Davis was injured and Russell Westbrook in a low level.

LeBron James committed to the Lakers

LeBron first joined the Lakers in 2018 and many were unsure how long he would remain within the franchise, a few months ago he recently signed a contract extension that could keep him in purple and gold until 2025.

On media day, LeBron James made it clear that he is committed to the Los Angeles franchise: “I came here because I believe in the franchise and I’m still here. It literally is that simple. I am committed to the franchise for the duration of my career, my contract years. I look forward to starting tomorrow and starting another season for the Lakers franchise.”

Last season LeBron was absolutely exceptional, performing at a level that no one his age has been able to achieve. But injuries cost him much of the season, as did many on the roster, and the Lakers floundered last season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Revealed Why He Bills Steph Curry, Not Himself As The…

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo recently was ranked as the NBA’s top player entering the 2022-23 season in ESPN’s annual list of the top 100 players.

But in his mind, he’s not the league’s best player. That title belongs to the reigning NBA Finals MVP.

“I believe the best player in the world is Steph Curry,” Antetokounmpo said Sunday at Bucks Media Day.

It’s not that Antetokounmpo was rooting for Curry and the Warriors to defeat the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals — although he might have been considering the Bucks were sent home by Boston in the second round of the postseason.

Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP and NBA champion himself, has a specific reason for why he tabs Curry as the world’s top baller.

“Do I believe I’m one of the best players in the league, and the way I help my team be great and win games, it’s efficient and effective? Yeah, I do believe that,” Antetokounmpo said. “I’m mature enough, I’m old enough to understand that.

“Do I believe I’m the best player in the world? No. I think the best player in the world is the person that is the last one standing. The person that takes his team to the Finals, to the finish line, and helps them win games and become champion.”

At Warriors Media Day later on Sunday afternoon, Curry learned of Antetokounmpo’s high praise and agreed with his thought process in the best player debate.

“I was thinking the same thing about him last year coming off their [championship],” Curry said.

The Bucks won their second championship in franchise history in 2021. Antetokounmpo was named the 2021 NBA Finals MVP and closed out the series by dropping 50 points on the Phoenix Suns in Game 6.

“Two years when we did that, yeah,” Antetokounmpo said. “When I was sleeping in my bed, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, maybe I’m the best player in the world.’ But now, no.”

Antetokounmpo further explained his take with a classic analogy from the basement.

“The way I view it, the winner is the best,” Antetokounmpo said. “The guy that wins is the best. When I play a game of ping pong — when I go to my house and play against my brothers, when I win, and I play against Thanasis, Kostas and Alex and then my mom and [wife] Mariah and I win, I’m the best.

“If Kostas played really good, a great series but didn’t win, how can he be the best when I won?”

The Bucks and Warriors are two of the top favorites to come away with the title. Could the league be in store for a Giannis-Steph Finals next season?

That would crown a new champion and decide Antetokounmpo’s greatest player debate.

Ja Morant Broke Internet As He Promises To Gift His Grizzlies Teammates A…

Here’s a new example of why Ja Morant is a pass-first player on and off the floor.

The fourth-year Memphis Grizzlies point guard signed a record breaking contract extension this off-season.

One of his goals with that newfound wealth is to buy his teammates Rolex watches.

Morant’s contract is a five-year deal worth $193 million. The deal could become worth $231 million if Morant makes an All-NBA team this season.

“It’s just a matter of time,” Morant said of getting his teammates Rolex watches. “My bread got to kick in first. I’m still broke. Next year, when I get my money.”

Morant’s selflessness transitions to the court, too. He couldn’t name a player that’s surprised him through two practices because of how much he’s studying the game. Coaches and teammates have often raved about Morant’s gym-rat mentality.

Morant will sometimes be watching Desmond Bane’s highlights and text him with a compliment. This was also showcased in Morant’s YouTube series when he was watching film while on the sidelines at a Nike AAU game.

“I watch these guys probably more than they watch themselves,” Morant said. “Just to learn my teammates.”

Yes, even the rookies that don’t have NBA film yet.

“I study they college film and seeing where their spots at on the floor,” Morant added. “Now I know when I’m running the offense, where to put them exact guys at.”
Unselfishness, high I.Q. and work ethic are all attributes of a superstar player, and each has been exemplified by Morant.

Now that he’s an All-Star, second-team All-NBA player and one of the league’s top point guards, the next goal is a championship, he said.

“That’s all I got left to prove,” Morant said.

Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins has the challenge of unlocking every inch of Morant’s potential. The two came in together when Jenkins was hired and Morant was drafted in 2019.
