There have been only a handful of Cup Series drivers who made it big in the field of Indy Car racing, one such being Tony Stewart. But the co-owner of JR Motorsports is yet to get over the fact he did not have the fortitude of competing in a real Indy Car Racing.
However, the Hall of Famer had a minuscule chance of competing in it, virtually by debuting in the iRacing Indy Car Racing at Michigan Motor Speedway, back in 2020. And channel his inner fanboy, but that doesn’t suffice the fact, as he revealed in the interview.
As a part of the Indianapolis 500 broadcasting team, the Xfinity Series champion shared his thoughts on whether he had the chance to drive in Indy Car. He expressed, “I did get some chances to come out here and drive one by myself.” However, “To be quite honest with you, I was really intimidated by the idea of driving one and how different that might be from what I was used to in stock cars.”
Junior also asserted, “I never was asked when I was crazy enough to do it, back when I was younger and I might have when I was in my 20s. But when I got old enough and smart enough to know better, that’s when the opportunities came.”
But everything has gone to pass since he retired from professional racing back in 2017. All he can do is admire the beauty of racing from the analyst box at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.
The No.5 Chevrolet driver, Kyle Larson, would be making his debut in the Indy 500, next year in collaboration with McLaren Arrow and Hendrick Motorsports. He would be one such driver from the Cup Series after Kurt Busch, who would compete in the Indy 500 in the midday and the Coca-Cola 600 of NASCAR in the evening of the same day.
While there is still a year for this champion to take his seat in Indy Car, the driver in an interview with Fox had stated, “It’s still so far away that it truly doesn’t seem real. Until I get in the car on the ground and fire an engine up — then I think I’m going to be scared.”

During their conversation, Dale Jr. opened up about his traffic violations and revealed the interesting encounters that he had with 4 different police officers.
He took a trip down memory lane to remember how he got his first speeding ticket and quipped that he had received not one, but four tickets between the ages of 16 and 18. He told Clarkson, “I had a few issues in the first two years of having my license, from 16 to 18. I got four tickets, and the funny thing about it is, is that it was four different officers who told me they all gave my dad his first ticket, so I don’t know how that is possible.”

During the last race weekend, several drivers voiced their support for the Netflix docuseries and said that it was helping the sport generate new fans. One of the series main characters, Denny Hamlin said, “I thought it was a very good introduction for new fans. Because they also were kind of teaching you some 101 stuff, like, here’s how this works.”
Xfinity Series racer and Live Fast Motorsports co-owner B.J. McLeod compared it to the Hollywood hit Days of Thunder and mentioned that it had the best potential since the movie to attract new fans. He said, “It’s something that people should see, and I think that it was an unbelievable opportunity for NASCAR to have that on Netflix.”
