Alex Bowman provided an update on his health Sunday at Darlington Raceway, saying he has no firm timetable on his return to NASCAR Cup Series competition as he heals from injuries suffered in a sprint-car crash.

Bowman remained sidelined for Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at the 1.366-mile track, and Josh Berry substituted in the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet for the third consecutive week. Bowman suffered a fractured vertebra in an April 25 event at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, and he said he is scheduled to have a physician assess his recovery this week.

“Every day is a little different. I feel like I feel way better than I did a couple of weeks ago,” said Bowman, whose crash came on his 30th birthday. “… But I don’t have any time for an estimated return. Some doctor appointments this week, get some more X-rays, see how I feel and I can go from there. But yeah, I’m mobile, super fortunate that the injury wasn’t worse than it was.”

Bowman was moving without any noticeable impairment through the garage area Sunday afternoon, signing autographs before a media availability at the No. 48 hauler. He said he’s resumed working out in the gym with some modified exercises but that the biggest back pain has been when he laughs, coughs or sneezes, or reclines to sleep. Bowman said he’d also want to be able to pull his seat belts tight without pain and absorb bumps and pit stops before feeling comfortable back in the cockpit.

Bowman said his Hendrick Motorsports team has been supportive of his extracurricular racing, and he owns a team that races sprints and midgets. Despite missing two races heading into Darlington, he was still 15th in the Cup Series standings — with six top-10 finishes in 10 starts — and dismissed the suggestion that his season was a write-off.

“I don’t think so. I mean, we’re still in the playoffs right now on points as we sit,” Bowman said. “So I think it’s overcoming, you look at what Kyle Busch has done and what other guys have done post-injury. I mean, it sucks, right? It’s not where I want to be, especially with the season we were having, but I know we can be as strong as we were before I got hurt when I come back.”

Bowman said his return to the track would depend on what his doctor’s report Wednesday, plus his comfort level of being in the car. He said he might participate in pit-stop practice this week, driving in the parking area and seeing how the jarring action of the car dropping off the jack feels.

Still, he welcomed being back at the track for NASCAR Throwback Weekend, backing the efforts of Berry and the rest of the No. 48 group.

“I knew my back was gonna hurt when I got old. I just didn’t think it was gonna be like that,” Bowman said. “But yeah, just trying to stay plugged in, right, here to be supportive of the 48 teams. If I wasn’t here, I would be sitting on the couch. So quick little road trip and glad to be here.”

The Cup Series’ next race is the NASCAR All-Star Race, scheduled for Sunday (8 p.m. ET, FS1, MRN, SiriusXM) at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Bowman has a berth in the All-Star main event, but team owner Rick Hendrick said that the Coca-Cola 600 on May 28 at Charlotte Motor Speedway could be the more desired return date.

Either way, Hendrick said he won’t hurry Bowman back behind the wheel.

“Look, I want him to be right when he gets back in the car because when you’ve got an injury like that, he would like to be back in Charlotte,” Hendrick said. “He’s seeing the doctor this week, and he’s got to get in and out of the car. They’ve got to get the belts on him and see how he responds. That’s a terrible injury. If you come back too early, it can mess you up for the whole year. I want him to be right. He’s listening to the doctors. He has started working out. I think it’s a good shot he’ll be back pretty quick. But we haven’t done the test in the car with the straps on him and harnesses and see if he has any pain.”

During the podcast, Dale Jr explained that Chastain, who was set to appear on the show initially, canceled at the last minute due to some issue, which Junior chose not to elaborate on. He clarified that Chastain’s cancellation had nothing to do with his sub-par performance in the race. Junior and Davis playfully lamented the absence of Chastain from the race’s controversies, expressing their desire for him to be “in the middle of something.” They emphasized their eagerness to have Chastain on the show despite his lack of involvement in the dramatic events of the Coca-Cola 600.

Dale Jr further expressed his disappointment and added, “The one race with all the drama, 600 miles, and all kinds of crap coming home, and Ross is not involved in any of it. I was sitting there watching the 600 and I’m like, ‘Come on Ross, get in the middle of something.‘”

Davis supplemented with wonder, “It was weird, there were wrecks, there was controversy, there was even Almirola pushing Bubba Wallace. Ross was in the middle of none of it! […] And I don’t know what to do about that, Ross is always in the middle of it!”

The Crackhouse Racing Team’s star driver, who has gained notoriety for his on-track incidents and occasional off-track shenanigans, experienced a poor performance at the Charlotte Motor Speedway as he finished 22nd. While Ross Chastain’s absence from the drama disappointed Dale Earnhardt Jr, fans of the sport were treated to an exhilarating race filled with intense moments and unexpected crashes.

The Coca-Cola 600 saw a significantly high number of wrecks—16 in all. This led to caution being called for 83 laps, including those in the final stage. Ryan Blaney held on to the lead for the last 20 laps, eventually winning by a margin of .663 seconds over Blaney, with Martin Truex Jr, Bubba Wallace, and Tyler Reddick following them.

The ongoing season of NASCAR is the 23rd and final season of Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick, as he is ready to take the final bow on the tracks of NASCAR, before he commences the next chapter of his life, not as a racer but as an analyst for FOX.

The 2014 Cup Series champion has already tried his hands as an analyst back in 2015 when he appeared as a guest in the booths of FOX. The veteran driver was also seen in the analyst room of FOX at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, on Saturday as a lead announcer for the Xfinity Series. However, was derailed due to rain.

But Austin Cindric and Tyler Reddick made sure that rain did not maar the excitement of Kevin Harvick, as they decide to barge and ransack the inside his motorhome and cover it in toilet paper. While the veteran driver was left to witness the horrors from the screens.

However, when asked about the incident, in his pre-race interview, Austin Cindric pleaded his innocence. He expressed, “As far as Kevin goes I was very anti-TP’ing Kevin’s bus, when they asked about it over the second intercom or whatever, because I have to race against him 28 more times before he retires. It’s all funny for everybody else. But Tyler and I were like that’s probably not a good idea.”

He also added, “But I guess that ask came from above on doing that. So they were all in on the joke. But Kevin has a nice bus, I could spend some days there. That was nice, I didn’t really wanna leave honestly, because we sat on Pit Road and got rained on the entire time.”

Talking about the mess that they had created, the Team Penske driver revealed, “But from that standpoint, it was fun. I don’t think it was too rough. I was more worried about the guy that was going to have it cleaned up. I don’t know Kevin’s coach driver’s name but I asked him 3 times before he started, are you good with this right?”

“Because you’re gonna be the one cleaning it up. I don’t think Kevin’s gonna be the one cleaning it up. Let’s be honest he pays the guy. So from that standpoint, I wanted to make sure, he was cool with it and knew what we were doing. The fact it was raining outside I thought it was gonna be a really bad idea if we did outside of it, because I don’t know if you all TP’ed anything. But you know water makes some sticking and creates a much more complicated cleanup process.”

Even Bob Pockrass, the veteran reporter joined the shenanigans and posted Cindric’s interview, explaining his innocence on his Twitter profile, with the lines, “Austin Cindric wasn’t the “drivers only” pit reporter who voted to toilet paper the inside of Kevin Harvick’s motorhome during the rain delay Saturday.”

As the video gained views on Twitter, fans could not control their laughter and excitement. They left varied comments under the post.

In a recent episode of his podcast, “Dale Jr. Download,” former NASCAR driver and Media Mogul Dale Earnhardt Jr. discussed the controversial incident between his former colleagues, Chase Elliott, and Denny Hamlin. The incident occurred during the Coca-Cola 600 race in Charlotte. As Dale Jr. delved into the incident, he expressed surprise and disbelief at the actions of his former associates.

The incident in question transpired when Elliott intentionally crashed into Hamlin, leading to both drivers being eliminated from the race. This act of aggression shocked many fans and left Earnhardt questioning the behavior of his former colleagues.

He sarcastically remarked on his podcast, “Oh, they did? I don’t seem to remember that part of the race. When did this happen?”

Earnhardt, known for his laid-back and friendly demeanor, found it hard to believe that Elliott and Hamlin, whom he considered “super nice guys,” would engage in such behavior.

He pointed out their impressive racing credentials and questioned the clash between them.

“So you’re telling me Chase Elliott, the guy who won the Xfinity Series championship here, one of my teammates and drives for Hendrick Motorsports, which I just love, had a crash with Denny Hamlin, who’s a part of Dirty Mo Media?” Earnhardt asked incredulously.

He continued, “Denny Hamlin? The guy who was in victory lane 2004, Daytona 500 with me? Brought my trophy back to the bus, that one?”

“Shoot! Damn! I know those guys well. Doesn’t sound like them”

Despite his disbelief, Earnhardt acknowledged that there might be a history between the two drivers that led to the incident. He recalled seeing a similar incident earlier in the race, where Hamlin slid into Elliott, causing tension between the two.

Earnhardt then stated, “I think they’ve had history. So, I was watching this, the lap before that. There was a restart and it kind of gets packed up. Denny is sliding up into Chase, the same thing that happened a lap or two later when the crash goes down. You know, I saw that, and I was like, ‘Ooh, Denny Man, you’re gonna piss him off’.’

“Honestly, anytime somebody slides into you, you just lose it. It happened a few times during the race with some other drivers, and you’re just like, Oh, what’s the other guy going to do?”

Unfortunately, the clash between Elliott and Hamlin had severe consequences for both drivers. NASCAR suspended Elliott for the next Cup Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway in Illinois after ruling that he intentionally crashed into Hamlin. Hamlin expressed his anger towards Elliott, claiming that the incident was a tantrum and that he shouldn’t be racing the following week. The suspension drew comparisons to a prior incident involving Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson, where Wallace was also suspended for intentionally wrecking Larson.

Although Elliott denied intentionally causing the crash, stating that Hamlin had forced him into the outside wall, the NASCAR ruling stood. The collision resulted in both drivers being eliminated from the race, with their cars sustaining significant damage.
