Warriors guard Stephen Curry—closer in ’14 to his formative Davidson days than the present—seemingly hasn’t forgotten.

During Golden State’s 123–112 takedown of the Suns Monday night in San Francisco, TV cameras captured Curry making use of historically savvy to taunt Phoenix guard Chris Paul.

Curry appeared to tell Paul “this ain’t 2014 no more” after scoring two of his 23 points. That year, Paul’s Clippers defeated the Warriors in a hotly contested seven-game first-round series before bowing out to the Thunder in the next round.

“It’s all competition,” Curry explained postgame with guard Klay Thompson by his side, his teammate of 12 seasons. “You play against somebody for so many years, the love I got for him and our history. It’s just competition back and forth, giving and taking.”

Of course, Draymond Green, as someone who delights in getting underneath his opponents’ skin, appreciated Curry’s mean trash talk toward the Sun’s guard. Speaking on The Draymond Green Show, the Warriors forward expressed his enjoyment over Stephen Curry’s verbal taunt.

“Steph had CP below the break, he hit him with a couple of moves and got an amazing and-one. And if you read his lips, he got up and he said, ‘This ain’t 2014 no more.’ And I appreciated that bar by Steph Curry because you gotta dig into that comment. That’s pretty much saying, ‘The last time you were better than me was 2014,’” Green said, via The Volume Sports.

Draymond Green has been a constant on Steph Curry’s side for the past 11 years. They have witnessed each other’s growth on their way to being the pillars (along with Klay Thompson) of the Warriors’ dynastic run over the past decade. Thus, Green could not help but bask in his adulation for the bravado his beloved teammate and friend showed by talking some smack towards Chris Paul.

“That’s nine years ago. This hasn’t been a debate since 2014. Nine years ago? That’s almost a decade. That’s a bar. So I just hope, you know those that enjoy that part of the game, which I do, that you appreciated that bar,” Green added.

While Truex put up good results, he failed to score a win for the first time since the 2014 season, which is ultimately what led to him missing the Playoffs.

Dale Jr. believes NASCAR needs to evolve in the way it views how drivers use these platforms, primarily social media, and podcasts. While he acknowledges that drivers may say things in the heat of the moment that they may regret later, he believes they should be allowed to speak freely on these platforms.

The owner of JR Motorsports adds: “Now, at a time when social media analysts love podcasts, they are giving motorists a new, unfiltered platform. You know, and I think as we grow as a sport, NASCAR needs to evolve in the way they see how drivers use these platforms, right?

He also said that if drivers are punished for their actions on social media, there needs to be a clear and consistent set of guidelines on what is acceptable and what is not.

Dale Jr thought a different situation would require him to react differently. boom! boom! “I would see it differently for Denny, who listens to his podcast on Wednesday and goes on, ‘Yeah, man, I don’t deal with this guy,’” Dale Earnhardt Jr.

said. He feels this way because Hamlin has been commenting on his podcast, so he should be free to speak. “What do you mean![…] I got the impression that it was a bit forbidden. In my mind.” Junior concluded.
