F1 driver and son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, Mick, is now engaged to model Laila Hasanovic – and is set to join the famous family.

The Schumachers have remained fiercely private since seven-time F1 world champion Michael suffered life-changing injuries in December 2013. A skiing accident led to Schumacher being temporarily placed into an induced coma before returning home the following September, but updates on his condition since have been few and far between.

It was reported that the F1 icon had made his first public appearance for 11 years last weekend as his daughter Gina-Marie married Iain Bethke at the Schumachers’ mansion in Majorca. Although guests were instructed to hand in their phones at the door, it would have been a huge family decision to give the wedding party insight into Michael’s condition.

There looks to be another family celebration on the horizon, too, with reserve Mercedes driver Mick Schumacher, 25, becoming engaged to influencer Hasanovic. Here’s all you need to know about the model, including how the Schumacher family decided whether she could meet her future father-in-law.

Hasanovic, 24, was born in Bosnia but moved to Denmark as a child, being raised in a small Danish town – and spending a year in Kentucky as an exchange student – before moving to Copenhagen, aged 19. By the time she moved to the capital, Hasanovic had been modelling for three years, having been given her first campaign by a watch brand.

The model has amassed more than 300k followers on Instagram and spends her time between Copenhagen and Switzerland. Notably, she reached the finals of Miss Universe Denmark in 2019, finishing in the top 10.

Before dating Schumacher, Hasanovic was in a relationship with footballer Jonas Wind, who plays for Wolfsburg and the Denmark national team. The social media star has been spotted at numerous motorsport events during her relationship with Schumacher but doesn’t share her new fiancee’s passion for getting behind the wheel.
“I got my driver license when I was 17, and ever since then, I have never been comfortable with driving a car,” Hasanovic told her followers. “I always try to practice as much as I can, I just don’t enjoy it that much.”

F1’s drivers meeting on Friday to discuss the controversial Lando Norris-Max Verstappen United States GP incident as they seek FIA clarification;

Lewis Hamilton believes “grey areas” in F1’s rules mean Max Verstappen has “got away with it for so long” when defending position on the track, as drivers prepare to meet on Friday to discuss the Dutchman’s United States GP incident with Lando Norris.

Thursday’s media day ahead of this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix was dominated by debate around the lap-52 incident in last Sunday’s race in the USA which saw Norris handed a podium-losing time penalty for an overtake on title rival Verstappen after a late-race battle over third place.

McLaren have since launched a right of review challenge in a bid to overturn the decision with an initial hearing set for 9.30pm UK time on Friday at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

With F1’s overtaking guidelines, as well as the consistency of stewards’ decisions and penalties after several other controversial incidents during the Austin weekend, under the spotlight, seven-time world champion Hamilton said the sport needed to “level up on all areas” of officiating – and suggested that his old title rival’s approach to defending position should not be allowed.

“It’s always been a grey area,” said Hamilton. “That’s why he’s got away with it for so long.

“They probably need to make some adjustments, for sure. Also, you do have inconsistencies on rulings, weekend in, weekend out, obviously depending on which stewards are there.

“As a sport, we do need to level up on all areas. You look at other global sports, they have full time refs, and I’m sure that wouldn’t be a bad thing for our sport.

“I experienced it many times with Max. You shouldn’t be able to just launch the car up the inside and be ahead and then go off, and still hold the position.”

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Hamilton drew a direct parallel between last Sunday’s controversy and his fierce wheel-to-wheel duels with Verstappen during their 2021 title fight – and that year’s Brazilian race in particular.

“It’s interesting people are talking about it now because the same thing happened to me in 2021,” said Hamilton.

“If you take Brazil into account, for example, under braking you’re ahead but then the car [on the inside] just comes off the brakes and doesn’t make the corner and you have to go wide. Then they’ll say you both went wide but you had no choice because you had to avoid a collision.

“There definitely has to be something done about it because it’s happening a lot now. You shouldn’t be able to come off the brakes, run more speed in, go off track and still hold your place.”

Riding motorcycles until he was 8, Johnson moved up to the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Stadium Series, where his mentor, Rick Johnson, arranged a meeting with Herb Fishel. After all, that 1993 meeting with the now-former executive director of General Motors Racing was what led Jimmie Johnson to someone he quickly realized was “a parent of some sort” to him.

Herb Fishel introduced Alan Miller – who was his lawyer at the time – to Jimmie Johnson, asking him to guide the teenager. As reported by Sports Illustrated, Miller recalled, “Herb introduced me to Jimmie at an off-road truck race, and within a year or two, Jimmie had become like a son to me… He’d met the Herzog Brothers in off-road, [so] I went to Milwaukee, negotiated, and bought an ASA [stock car] team for them.” But what’s so significant moment about that moment, you’d think?

That was Jimmie’s ticket into ASA, which led to the Nationwide (now Xfinity) Series and, subsequently, the Cup Series. But did you know Miller also played a role in Johnson’s comeback in 2023?

Having negotiated all of Johnson’s contracts for over 30 years, Alan Miller was the brains behind the conversion of Petty GMS Racing to Legacy Motor Club. Throughout his time in the Cup Series, Johnson drove for Hendrick Motorsports. But when he wanted to return last year, the winningest team wasn’t an option, considering NASCAR allows an organization to have a maximum of just four cars.

After “casual conversations” with Trackhouse Racing that didn’t materialize into anything, a mutual connection between Miller and Johnson emerged in Petty GMS. Who was it?

Let’s go back to Johnson’s meeting with Fishel. A couple of years after he signed Jimmie to a GM contract, they came across the Herzog brothers, who wanted to get into pavement racing. That’s where Alan Miller came in.

Eric Jones. It turns out that Miller represented both Johnson and Jones. “When this opportunity came along, it really came through the offices of Alan Miller,” Johnson said, as reported by The Athletic. Explaining that Michael Bill had been handling things in Miller’s office, the 49-year-old added, “As Michael learned about my desires to continue to drive and to try to find a different way to be involved in the sport, he said, ‘I feel like there’s an opportunity here that really makes sense on both sides.’ That was the catalyst and start of it.”

And on October 20, 2024, Johnson had to say goodbye to him one final time.

“Alan became an advisor, friend, and mentor over 30 years ago… he truly looked after me as if I was one of his own,” Jimmie Johnson wrote about Alan Miller after his passing. Aged 87, he died of natural causes, but not without leaving a lasting impression on the seven-time Cup Series champion.

Now, Legacy Motors Club has been racing in the Cup Series for two seasons, with Erik Jones (No. 43) and John Hunter Nemechek (No. 42) running full-time and Jimmie Johnson (No. 84) running select races. Had it not been for Alan Miller, it may not have existed. That said, the professional football player-turned-lawyer wasn’t a stranger to the NASCAR garage besides his connection to Jimmie Johnson.

Miller’s sphere of influence was spread across the sport, with his law firm representing the likes of Erik Jones, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Casey Mears, David Gilliland, Danica Patrick, and Helio Castroneves. But even before he delved into the NASCAR scene, he was affiliated with the sporting world.

Miller started his career playing college football, and he made it to the senior level. Pursuing law and professional football wasn’t something he could focus on at the same time, so he put a pause on his passion for football. However, he did return to his favored playing ground as a General Counsel to the AFL Player’s Association from 1965 to 1970.

Alan had a successful amateur racing career; he raced in the Central Division, SCCA CSR, and won the championship. And his fondness for auto racing would open the doors for him to get connected to the NASCAR world. His work ethic and relationships extended beyond his professional expertise. This was evident from the response of the drivers he worked with, along with the fans who poured in with the condolence messages.
