Nadal is back inside the top-2 for the first time since May 2021, defending no points in the rest of the season and hoping to fight for the year-end no. 1 honor with Carlos Alcaraz. Rafa did not play in the second part of 2021 and made a perfect return at the start of the new campaign.

He claimed 20 consecutive wins in 2022 and lifted his first Australian Open crown in 13 years following a memorable comeback against Daniil Medvedev in the final. Rafa conquered the ATP 500 event in Acapulco over Medvedev and Cameron Norrie in February and headed to Indian Wells as the favorite.

The Spaniard returned in Madrid and Rome and did not play his best tennis after such a long break. Also, he struggled with a foot injury and gathered dark clouds over his Roland Garros preparation. As many times before, Nadal was a player to beat in Paris, receiving injections ahead of every match and toppling seven rivals to secure the 22nd Major title!

Nadal set his eyes on the first Wimbledon crown in 12 years, hoping for a good run in his first All England Club campaign in three years. The Spaniard reached the semi-final following an epic victory over Taylor Fritz in five sets.

Still, it marked the end of his campaign, dealing with an abdominal injury and revealing a seven-millimeter tear. Rafa could not serve at his best throughout the tournament and skipped Montreal to rest his body. Nadal hit the exit door in Cincinnati in the second round against Borna Coric and did not look good ahead of the US Open.

A four-time champion reached the fourth round in New York before falling to Frances Tiafoe in four sets and wrapping up his season at Majors with two trophies. Nadal competed alongside Roger Federer at the Laver Cup and could not serve at his best.

Rafa will use the following weeks to train and recover, hoping to play at his best at the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals.

F1 legend makes HUGE claim on Mick Schumacher talent

One of Michael Schumacher’s former bosses has claimed that a ditched Formula 1 driver is better than ‘half’ of the current grid.

Jean Todt was general manager at Ferrari between 1994-2007, winning a remarkable 13 world titles during that spell as the Italian giants became the sport’s dominant force.

A major reason behind that success was the emergence of Schumacher, who won five consecutive titles under Todt’s stewardship.

After firmly cementing his legacy as an F1 legend, the 55-year-old suffered a severe brain injury following a tragic ski accident shortly after his retirement, and was placed in a medically induced coma.

He continues to receive treatment at his home in Switzerland, with his family opting not to disclose much information about his condition.

‘Talented’ driver deserves chance to impress

Schumacher’s brother Ralf was also a successful racer in F1, winning six times over an 11-year period in the sport, whilst more recently, his son Mick spent two seasons at Haas before being dropped in 2022.

Big things were expected of the former F2 champion when he broke into the top tier of motorsport, but the 25-year-old endured a miserable time with the American outfit, claiming just 12 points during his time there.

With eight seats currently vacant ahead of the 2025 season, former FIA president Todt believes the ‘talented’ Mercedes reserve driver deserves another opportunity to impress.

“It’s no secret that I love the Schumacher family – and therefore also Mick,” he told Bild.

“I want to see him reach the goal of his dreams and I am convinced that he deserves a cockpit in Formula 1.

“He is a very talented driver who undoubtedly has what it takes for the racing series – otherwise he wouldn’t have won Formula 3 and Formula 2.

“Is he one of the best three or four drivers? I don’t know, but Mick is better than half of the Formula 1 drivers.”

Hamilton and Mercedes backed as ‘major THREAT’

Hamilton’s team – Mercedes – have now won back-to-back grands prix, with George Russell having capitalised on Max Verstappen and Lando Norris’ collision to take victory in Austria a week before his team-mate’s home win.

A hat-trick of victories for the Brackley-based outfit would have been unthinkable just a few weeks ago, however, one F1 pundit believes that they have a real chance to do so as the sport heads to Hungary.

How will Lewis Hamilton do at the Hungarian Grand Prix?

Hamilton has had great success at the Hungarian Grand Prix over the years, winning eight F1 races at the Hungaroring – four more than any other driver – with his first victory coming in 2007 and his latest triumph in 2020.

With his victory at Silverstone, Hamilton became the driver with the most wins at any single circuit in F1 with nine, and he could match that record were he to be successful again next time out.

Former F1 driver and now pundit Jolyon Palmer pointed out Hamilton’s Hungary record recently, making an exciting claim for fans of the seven-time champion.

“Amazingly we’ve now had six winners from 12 races, showing how competitive this season has become,” Palmer wrote on F1 Unlocked after the British Grand Prix.

“Hamilton has always thrived at Silverstone, but he’s always been brilliant in Budapest as well – where he took his last pole position in Formula 1.

“So, I’d expect him and Mercedes to be a major threat again next time out.”

As well as it being a strong circuit for Hamilton, the seven-time champion’s car could also be even more competitive in terms of pace by the time it hits the track for FP1 on Friday – that’s according to team boss Toto Wolff.

Upgrades have put Mercedes back in contention for podiums and victories and the team plans on bringing further updates to their cars for both the Hungarian GP and the subsequent Belgian Grand Prix, Wolff has explained.

Kyle Larson Firmly Trashes Rumors of a Budding Fight With Chase Elliott

Despite missing out on starting the 2024 Coca-Cola 600, Kyle Larson currently leads the standings with 671 points. Interestingly, Chase Elliott sits just 11 points below him, in second place, and remains a strong contender to win the regular season championship. While Larson has enjoyed three wins, Elliott has relied on consistency and a single-race win this campaign to fight for the title.

Amazingly, the #9 driver is yet to have a DNF this season. While it certainly puts his last year’s misery behind, there’s still loads to compete for. Last month at New Hampshire, Elliott gave an idea of how things have been at Hendrick Motorsports since both he and Larson remain title contenders for the regular season.

Back then, as reported by NASCAR.com, he said, “Kyle and I raced for a championship a couple of times. I can say with a lot of confidence that our meetings have never changed. How everyone talks or the things that are discussed or the information that is uploaded into our internal servers. As far as setups and things of that nature, it’s all very straightforward. It’s all an open book and what you take and do with that from there is up to you.”

As Elliott denied any internal conflict or mystery due to the fierce competition, even Kyle Larson spoke on similar lines. Ahead of the race at the Pocono Raceway, Larson spoke to the media. When NASCAR journalist Bharat Aggarwal asked the #5 driver about the mood in the HMS camp, he denied the presence of any negativity. Larson said, “Yeah, to me, I mean it hasn’t affected anything negatively.”

In fact, the 2021 Cup Champion pinpointed the positive aspects during the exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. He said, “You know, I think if anything, it’s been all positive this year, because you know, our teams always push ahead for the greater of the organization. So you have two teams in the top two in the standings, I think has everybody pressure-wise pushing even more. So yeah, it’s good.”

Not only that, Larson spoke highly of his teammates doing well. Firstly, he acknowledged how Elliott has done well in this campaign. He said, “It’s been great to see Chase with the speed. He’s so consistent. However, he accepted how the #9 team remains a threat in the title race using 6 words, “You can never count them out.” Additionally, Larson also took into consideration how well Alex Bowman and William Byron have done.He said, “Alex [Bowman], obviously with the win last week but then he’s been really strong. William [Byron] has been so fast but had a lot of bad luck here lately. So yeah, they’ll be good.” Not only did Larson sing praises for his teammates, but he assertively acknowledged the positive mood in the HMS camp. He said, “Hendrick Motorsports is in a great spot right now. And all the teams always work really well together.”

It is good to hear Larson speak positively about the harmony at Hendrick Motorsports. Having said that, it is interesting to see how both Larson and Elliott go about their business on the track. With only six races left, it remains to be seen who triumphs among them or is there going to be a different winner altogether? Well, only time can answer that question.
