Lewis Hamilton has private chat with Charles Leclerc about Max Verstappen fight
Lewis Hamilton has revealed his thoughts on his intense battle with Max Verstappen in a private chat in the cool-down room at the United States Grand Prix. Hamilton claimed he tried “so hard” to stay ahead of (Verstappen) in a private chat with Leclerc.
It comes after Hamilton and Verstappen enjoyed an intense battle in the closing stages. Verstappen saw his early lead slip after a pit lane error dropped him down to P3.
The Dutchman made his anger clear over the team radio but it inspired a dramatic comeback drive. He quickly passed Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc before hunting down Hamilton at almost half a second per lap.
Verstappen bided his time but eventually got the help of DRS to help him pass his former world championship rival. The Mercedes driver attempted to fight back in the closing stages and kept reporting the Red Bull star for apparently crossing track limits.

Verstappen was handed a final warning by race stewards with just a handful of laps remaining, raising fears he could be hit with a penalty. After the race, Hamilton spoke with Leclerc about his battle with Verstappen and was heard saying: “I tried so hard to stay ahead and beat him.” Leclerc then asked Hamilton: “What happened to Carlos [Sainz]?” before the Mercedes man replied: “George [Russell] took him out.” Sainz had started the race on pole but was forced to retire after a collision with Russell – which saw the Silver Arrows star handed a five-second penalty – on the first corner.
Mercedes came to the race with upgrades and Hamilton admitted they helped them to close the gap to the leaders. He commented: “It was so, so close and I did everything I could to try and stay ahead but they were just a little bit too quick today. Great strategy, great race by red Bull and again my condolences to the team.
“The car was a handful today and firstly, it felt amazing to be in the lead. That is something we have been working so hard on throughout the year and we have had so much hope.”

The victory has also helped Red Bull secure the constructors’ championship for the first time since 2013. Verstappen is also the first driver to win two races in the United States during the same season since Alan Jones in 1981.
Speaking after the race, Verstappen added: “It was a tough one. It was all looking good but then the pit stop was a bit longer than we would have liked, so I had to fight my way forward again. We gave it everything out there today, and of course it’s a very difficult weekend for us, so this one is definitely dedicated to Dietrich.
“We had a big chance to win the constructors’ here, and you want to do that in style, and I think we did that today. This is a great track for battling. If you pass in one corner, you can come back in the next, and it’s really enjoyable to drive here.”

President Joe Biden, who is running against Trump, was briefed on the incident and spoke to Trump several hours after the shooting. Many Republicans quickly blamed the violence on Biden and his allies, arguing that sustained attacks on Trump as a threat to democracy have created a toxic environment.

NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt Jr. and 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney were recently on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and talked about the Netflix special NASCAR: Full Speed among other things. During their conversation, Dale Jr. opened up about his traffic violations and revealed the interesting encounters that he had with 4 different police officers.
He took a trip down memory lane to remember how he got his first speeding ticket and quipped that he had received not one, but four tickets between the ages of 16 and 18. He told Clarkson, “I had a few issues in the first two years of having my license, from 16 to 18. I got four tickets, and the funny thing about it is, is that it was four different officers who told me they all gave my dad his first ticket, so I don’t know how that is possible.”
Dale Jr.’s father Dale Earnhardt was one of the biggest names in stock car racing since its advent in the 20th century. While it is natural for anyone to be known as having interacted with the legend, Dale Jr. can’t quite put a finger on how four different officers could have given him his first ticket. However, he did have a more important lesson to take away from the tickets he got
“I learned my lesson,” he affirmed. “I haven’t had any problems since then.” Dale Jr. is one of the executive producers of Full Speed. The docuseries has been very well received by drivers and fans since its premiere last month.

During the last race weekend, several drivers voiced their support for the Netflix docuseries and said that it was helping the sport generate new fans. One of the series main characters, Denny Hamlin said, “I thought it was a very good introduction for new fans. Because they also were kind of teaching you some 101 stuff, like, here’s how this works.”
Xfinity Series racer and Live Fast Motorsports co-owner B.J. McLeod compared it to the Hollywood hit Days of Thunder and mentioned that it had the best potential since the movie to attract new fans. He said, “It’s something that people should see, and I think that it was an unbelievable opportunity for NASCAR to have that on Netflix.”
The docuseries chronicled the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoff run and featured others including Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, Ross Chastain, and Dale Jr., himself.
