Hendrick Motorsports provides big update on Alex Bowman’s return to NASCAR
Alex Bowman, a 30-year-old NASCAR driver for Hendrick Motorsports, fractured a vertebra in a sprint car accident ahead of the Dover Motor Speedway race. He has missed two races so far and is expected to miss a third at Darlington Raceway.
Bowman’s injury is the second significant time a Hendrick Motorsports driver has missed races due to an injury while not on the NASCAR circuit. Chase Elliott fractured his left tibia in a snowboarding accident in early March.
Bowman suffered the accident in Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson’s new sprint car series called High Limit Racing. The racing series has big payouts compared to the World of Outlaws.
In fact, the driver of the No. 48 car owns a Dirt Midget and sprint car racing team called Alex Bowman Racing. There are plenty of connections to the dirt racing world so it is not surprising to see Bowman take part in these races with High Limit Racing.
Many people have been highly skeptical about NASCAR drivers taking risks outside of the race tracks on Sunday afternoons; however, they need to live their life and some organizations are OK with letting their drivers live a little bit.

Chad Knaus, the Vice President of Competition at Hendrick Motorsports, is one of those who is OK with letting drivers live their life. Knaus hopped on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Thursday and gave an update on Bowman’s injury status.
“I sent (Alex Bowman) a text (Wednesday) just touching base with him and asked him how he was feeling and he’s like, ‘Man, I feel pretty good today.’ He’s going through, he’s following doctors orders as he should be. We’re waiting for what the doctors say and when they say it and when we get to that point, we’ll react accordingly…”
Chad Knaus on Alex Bowman’s injury recovery ahead of Darlington
Obviously, Bowman won’t be holding the wheel at Darlington Raceway this weekend but it is good to hear that he is doing well. The 30-year-old driver won’t miss as much time as Elliott and should feel in a relatively good spot when he does make his return.

Bowman currently sits 15th in the point standings and that is a positive after missing two points-paying races with a third on the way. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will likely be below the cut-line once he returns but it wouldn’t be too much to overcome.
The only issue would be the idea of the cut-line moving up right now. Through 12 races, there have been nine different winners and it seems likely that more will be coming soon. Bowman may need to win a race to make the playoffs if the bubble becomes too high.
Bowman’s injury is a setback for the Hendrick Motorsports team, which is currently leading the NASCAR Cup Series standings. However, the team is confident that Bowman will be back soon and that he will be able to compete for wins.

President Joe Biden, who is running against Trump, was briefed on the incident and spoke to Trump several hours after the shooting. Many Republicans quickly blamed the violence on Biden and his allies, arguing that sustained attacks on Trump as a threat to democracy have created a toxic environment.

NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt Jr. and 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney were recently on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and talked about the Netflix special NASCAR: Full Speed among other things. During their conversation, Dale Jr. opened up about his traffic violations and revealed the interesting encounters that he had with 4 different police officers.
He took a trip down memory lane to remember how he got his first speeding ticket and quipped that he had received not one, but four tickets between the ages of 16 and 18. He told Clarkson, “I had a few issues in the first two years of having my license, from 16 to 18. I got four tickets, and the funny thing about it is, is that it was four different officers who told me they all gave my dad his first ticket, so I don’t know how that is possible.”
Dale Jr.’s father Dale Earnhardt was one of the biggest names in stock car racing since its advent in the 20th century. While it is natural for anyone to be known as having interacted with the legend, Dale Jr. can’t quite put a finger on how four different officers could have given him his first ticket. However, he did have a more important lesson to take away from the tickets he got
“I learned my lesson,” he affirmed. “I haven’t had any problems since then.” Dale Jr. is one of the executive producers of Full Speed. The docuseries has been very well received by drivers and fans since its premiere last month.

The instantaneous impact that Full Speed has been having on NASCAR
During the last race weekend, several drivers voiced their support for the Netflix docuseries and said that it was helping the sport generate new fans. One of the series main characters, Denny Hamlin said, “I thought it was a very good introduction for new fans. Because they also were kind of teaching you some 101 stuff, like, here’s how this works.”
Xfinity Series racer and Live Fast Motorsports co-owner B.J. McLeod compared it to the Hollywood hit Days of Thunder and mentioned that it had the best potential since the movie to attract new fans. He said, “It’s something that people should see, and I think that it was an unbelievable opportunity for NASCAR to have that on Netflix.”
The docuseries chronicled the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoff run and featured others including Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, Ross Chastain, and Dale Jr., himself.
